American Forces Struck a 'Large Plant' in Venezuela, President Trump Asserted Without Offering Details.

Ex-President Donald Trump has asserted that US military assets struck a "major plant" in the South American country in recent days. But, the former president offered no details on the exact nature or site of the strike, and officials have issued no further clarification from his administration.

Unspecific Comments Offered In a Radio Interview

"We just eliminated – I'm not sure if you heard – they have a big plant, where the ships originate. Recently, we destroyed it. So we struck them with significant force," Trump reportedly told Republican donor and businessman John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Possible Significance of a Confirmed Attack

Should a US strike were to be confirmed, it would constitute the first attack on Venezuelan soil since the US Department of Defense began a expansion of American military presence in the region to interdict narco-trafficking operations that the former administration alleges operate under the direction of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

This initial objective of the military buildup has evolved into a quarantine aimed at hindering the country's oil exports.

Social Media Video and Administration Claims

Trump has for weeks indicated that US forces are prepared to widen the operations by attacking objectives inside Venezuela, a tactic that would theoretically require congressional authorization.

Video footage shared on social media on 24 December appeared to show an detonation allegedly from an industrial area in a Venezuelan state. But, the footage or the site in question has not been independently verified.

An official from Trump's team reportedly informed a news network that the former president was referring to a drug facility in his comments.

Response and Current Strategic Situation

The Caracas administration has issued no statement on the incident the former president referenced. Additionally, there have been no independent reports from within the country concerning it.

The presence of American forces in the region – a position certain officials have termed a sea blockade – constitutes the broadest naval operation of his time in office.

Administration officials have refrained from labeling the operation as a blockade, but have acknowledged that about 15,000 personnel are positioned across the Caribbean and the Gulf, including a carrier strike group, F-35 aircraft, and law enforcement vessels to uphold existing economic sanctions.
